People weren’t designed to sit at a computer all day — we were designed to be out hunting wildebeest or something equally active. Yet sitting at a computer all day is how many of us now make our living, and not surprisingly we don’t always feel that comfortable.
Minimising risk and adapting to individual needs
At Workwise we strongly believe in a proactive rather than reactive approach to DSE related problems. It’s not just a box ticking exercise: the whole point of a DSE assessment is to identify possible areas of risk and to take steps to minimize that risk. You’ll probably find that the workstation equipment you have is absolutely fine and compliant with the DSE regulations, but you and your employees aren’t using it correctly — which is where we come in.
Workwise can educate all your employees on the adjustability of their workstation: not only what changes they can make, but more importantly what’s right for them — one size does not fit all.
It’s not ‘rocket science’ — much of DSE ergonomics is common sense— but most people just don’t take the time to think about what they’re doing. They just sit down and get on with the job they’re paid to do, which is great, but not helpful in the long run if doing their job makes them sick.
Lasting improvements
Workwise will not only educate your employees, but also ‘sell’ the benefits of sitting correctly so that they can take responsibility for looking after themselves to improve their comfort and ultimately their productivity — which has to be good news!
We’re independent of any furniture manufacturer or equipment supplier, so we won’t tell you that you need stuff (footrests, document holders, etc) unless we really think that you do.
There’s more than one solution to any problem, so if you want to look at high-tech solutions then that’s cool by us, but equally if your budgets are a little more realistic then we’re happy to help you with that too — as long as it’s safe and does the job.
Workwise one-to-one DSE assessments ensure the following areas are addressed…

- Consequences of poor work practice
- Instruction on adjustability of own workstation: including chair, desk, screen, keyboard, mouse
- Instruction on adjustability of shared environment
- Encouraging immediate changes in work practice/workstation layout
- Education of users responsibility for their own health and safety
- Supply of user leaflet to reinforce the assessment
